About the role
As Senior Instructional Designer, you will be instrumental in developing engaging new courses, reviewing and improving existing courses, and contributing to the strategy and development of the learning design department. You will collaborate closely with the learning design team and subject matter experts to ensure the continual improvement of the delegate learning experience. You will also manage project scheduling and resource capacity for the team to support the successful development and launch of new courses, modules and apprenticeships. You will also be part of a team that is actively working to learn to integrate and automate AI tools within the roles of the learning designer, including:
- leveraging the efficiencies of different AI tools/models for various aspects of the learning design / course development tasks
- defining and integrating instructional and ethical standards for AI-generated learning experiences.
- creating specifications for collaboration and iterative development with our development team for AI-generated engagement tools and assessment / feedback that can operate in real-time for our learners.
Key tasks and responsibilities include
- Work closely with the learning design team to contribute to delivering a clear strategy and vision for the learning design department.
- Develop inclusive learning environments that ensure delegates of all learner styles flourish across Real Training, Dyslexia Action, and Educational and Sporting Futures (ESF) brands.
- Support with future Tender opportunities and contribute to the development of courses resulting from successful Tenders.
- Take a lead on project managing new courses with agreed templates and project software.
- Work closely with subject matter experts and the Real Group learning design team to create engaging courses.
- Take a hands-on approach to the design, writing, editing, and production of new courses in line with Real Group philosophy, pedagogy and practice.
- Support with course ID reviews for quality and consistency.
- Create and implement consistent templates for course development
- Set up new projects within our course development and resource management software.
- Manage the feedback/review system including running delegate feedback focus groups (where needed).
- Provide regular reports to leadership about the status of courses, engagement, delegate satisfaction, budget, and timelines.
- Undertake daily project scheduling via ‘stand-ups’ to drive task completion.
- Identify overdue tasks and risks, and solve and escalate as necessary.
- Manage resource capacity and engage with all stakeholders across the company to further the effectiveness of learning design and delivery at Real Group.
- Manage and liaise with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs).
- Manage the team storage system (files, folders etc.).
- Keep up to date with the latest learning technologies and design techniques.
- Propose alternative ways of increasing interactivity and engagement with current learning material.
- Coordinate the ‘annual learning design forum’ across Real Group.
- Further develop a plan for effective and rigorous evaluation and improvement of Real Group courses within budgetary constraints.
- Liaise with course leaders to maintain and upgrade course content as necessary.
- Undertake any other reasonable requests.

- Extensive experience of designing and developing engaging online and blended learning courses for educators and higher education audiences
- A strong understanding of learning design principles and adult learning theories.
- Experience in project management and efficient use of resource capacity management software to successfully deliver courses.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with subject matter experts and stakeholders.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- A commitment to developing inclusive learning environments.
- Confidence and technical competence for using a range of Learning Management Systems to design and deliver online learning.

- Familiarity with learning technologies and authoring tools.
- Experience with quality assurance and evaluation reporting for improving courses.

Location
Canterbury, Greenwich, Staines and Stevenage offices although given the specialist skillset required, we are open to applications from skilled, experienced instructional designers who would like to work remotely in the UK with a willingness to travel to a monthly meeting in one of our offices.
Salary range
For 22.5 hours per week = £27,000 – £33,000 (dependent on experience) which represents 0.6FTE for the full-time salary range £45,000 – £55,000
